Signe Helena moved to Fränninge, Malmöhus län 19/6 1907. Was fosterchild to the dairy manager Alfred Andersson and his wife Anna Karolina Gustavsson in Fränninge nr.27. Moved with her foster family to Jonstorp 1910-06-15. (Fränninge AIIa:1 sid 165, blad 6).
I found Signe in Jonstorps church book 1910 page 21 (CA6368) under Glimminge. But in 1920 Signe and her new family are gone. Where did she go? Did she get married?I do have her photo from New York, so she went there eventuallyl. She looks very young and pretty!
At last I found her on the Cd "Emigranten" database Emihamn. It says that Signe H Nyqvist, 19 years old from Kattarp emigrated to Amerika, New York 1913-11-04 from Mamö and she was travelling alone.
Found Signe on another database: the boat from Malmö was sailing to Glasgow and then she changed boat to SS California on the 8 nov to New York, according to Ellis Islands database.
She arrived to New York the 17 november 1913. The whole journey only took 13 days. The passager record says that ”a friend” paid for the trip, that she had 25 dollars, that she hadn't any ticket to her final destination 12 Essex St. Newark NJ, where her sister, Ester Rodin, and brother in law lived. I suppose they met her!
She had light skin, brown hair and blue eyes (all her sisters had brown???), and she was 5 foot 4 ich tall =160cm. In the Ellis Island records her name is spelled ”Seyne Helena Nygerit”. So you can imagine she was not that easy to find!
Then I lost track of her for several years!
In her uncle Erik Johan's will of 1930 she is mentioned as Signe Lundell living in Amerika. Still I cannot find her in the US Census!
But years later a looked again and found this one:
Helen Lundell
Social Security-nummer: 368-40-8808
49442 Muskegon, Muskegon, Michigan, United States of America
born: 29 Jul 1894
died: Jul 1986
This is the right birth date!!!
US Census 1920:
Helen and her husband Gunnar and Gunnar's dad Ludvig Lundell born in 1860. They live in
Bloomfield Ward 3, Essex, New Jersey. Her sister Ester lives nearby!
I think this is her!!!!!
US Census 1930:
She is born in Sweden, her husband's name is Gunard ? born 1888 in Sweden. The children are: James born 1922 and Irving born 1927. Helen got married in 1919 and emigrated in 1913.
They lived in Muskegon, Michigan.
I looked in the American white pages and found one Irving Lundell in Muskegon - dare I write to him?
I did! And he really was the son of Signe Helena Nykvist!!! Amazing!!
